Pinky Gone Driving Little tidbits not meant for human consumption

Sometimes it takes all you've got

Fri, 2005-10-28 22:03

I sat down the other night to write a letter to one of my pen pals and I used the two pens that I had carried in my pocket that day. After I finished that letter, I was going to start another one, but I wanted to get a different pen. So, I went to my pen cup and starting picking things out that I wanted to use. Then I just grabbed them all. The second letter never got written, but here's what the scene looked like in the morning

Weblinks are back

Found this post on drupal.org that had a workaround for the error I was seeing in the weblink module. They're back now. You can see the websites I visit in the sidebar.

Pinky is Back!

Tue, 2005-10-25 22:03

After a server crash took out my workstation, I finally got around to installing the necessary things to make Pinky Gone Driving functional again. The weblinks don't seem to be working, but I doubt anyone will miss them except for (possibly) me.

And surprise of surprises, I missed my blog while it was down. I'm surprised that it hooked me so quickly and completely, but after six months of very intermittent blogging, I feel the need to express myself...constantly.

Do you believe in a Flying Spaghetti Monster?

Sun, 2005-09-18 22:03

Brad Henderson (some guy) suggested that the Kansas Board of Education should give equal time to the teachings of Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. In case you haven't converted, this religion teaches that

The Universe was created by an invisible and undetectable Flying Spaghetti Monster. All evidence pointing towards evolution was intentionally planted by this being.

among other things including the fact that declining numbers of pirates are responsible for global warming (note: correlation might not imply causation). More information at Wikipedia or from the horse's mouth

Paper Work

Thu, 2005-09-15 22:03

We're almost finished with the paper that we've been working on which is a good feeling, but I seem to have given myself a little bit of a cold from working too hard on it. Hopefully it will pass this weekend. It is a bummer to get sick on a Friday though, as it ruins not your work week, but your weekend. Here's a figure I made yesterday to give an idea about what I do for a living.

Back to Work et al.

Sun, 2005-09-11 22:03

I went back to work today after six weeks home with Rose. It was a bit of a jarring transition; I woke up 1 minute before my alarm went off, with Rose fussing. Then I lay back down, fell sound asleep, turned off the alarm when it went off and feel sound asleep again. After Lara woke me up again, I thought “I don't think I remember how to do this.” I eventually made it into the shower and out the door, but it did take a little while longer than I had hoped. Then (as if that hadn't been enough) when I went to buy some coffee beans on my way to work (to make myself the cup of decaf that was going to substitute for being up during the night with Rose) they were out of decaf! I had to get a rain check for my coffee beans. They comped me a cup to go, but I do like the ritual of making my own at work. What are you going to do.
On the plate this week is finishing up the paper on the stuff that I talked about at Snowbird that has been almost done for seemingly ever now. Hopefully it will be submittable by Friday. Then I'll be preparing a talk for Cha-Cha Days a conference at UNC coming up in a couple of weeks. All of this with learning to work from home and spending as much time as possible with Rose. I do love my life.

Site Updates

Sun, 2005-09-04 22:03

I've been tweaking the layout of the site so in case anyone still reads this blog, you can let me know if you like it.

I've also added some more pictures to our Picture Gallery of Rose at one month old. I think my favorite out of the whole bunch is this one.
