Pinky Gone Driving Little tidbits not meant for human consumption

Media Notebook

Spent last night setting up an old laptop to replace our CD player. I thought that it had a bad hard drive and brought it home from work to see about replacing it, but the install went fine, as did putting all of the music on, so we'll cross our fingers that the hard drive lives to see another day.

I put Ubuntu Linux on the machine, and transferred all of the music over from my laptop. I think that we'll mostly use Rhythmbox and Muine for music playback, and Sound Juicer and Gnomebaker for CD ripping and burning repsectively. I'm going to hopefully install some GDesklets to make the desktop all pretty and to make the Audio apps easy to find. That is, if gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org ever comes back online.

Roses for Rose

Ian took some pictures at the Portland Rose Garden and posted them on his blog for Rose. Nice pictures and when she's old enough, I'm sure Rose will enjoy them. Thanks, Ian.

Intro

This post was authored using reST. It was processed into Drupal using the rst module. Very nice stuff. It did take adding the full path name of the rst2html binary in the .module file, but it works great now. I really like this for a simplified form of markup

She's Here

Thu, 2005-08-11 22:03

Meet Rose Athena Martinsen-Burrell. She was born at 4:31 pm on Monday, August 1st. She weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 19 1/4 in. long. The labor was long and she was eventually delivered by caesarean section. Lara and Rose are both doing great now here at home. We have had lots of visitors and help here at home and are settling into our groove.

Here's an incredibly cute pic of our Mont-ster getting into places where you wouldn't necessarily think that a cat would enjoy being.

Export Address Book info into a Mutt alias file

Thu, 2005-07-14 22:03

In trying to get my life a little bit organized, I wrote this little python script to export the people in my address book in a format that mutt (my email program) can understand.

ab2alias.py

This script outputs the following:

alias FirstnameLastname Emailaddress (Firstname Lastname)

for every entry in the addres book that has a name and a primary email address. To use the program, from the command line type:

ab2alias.py > alias_file

and then in your .muttrc file put:
